Turning & Mill-Turn

CNC turning and live-tool mill-turn for multi-feature rotational parts. Mill-turn up to Ø400 × 800 mm with main/sub spindles, C/Y axes and live tooling.

Size Capacity

Maximum turning diameter Ø500 mm, turning length 1,000 mm; bar capacity Ø80 mm. Swiss turning for small features: bar Ø up to 32 mm, minimum Ø0.5 mm.

Precision Tolerances

Typical tolerances to ±0.005 mm; concentricity to 0.008 mm; roundness to 0.005 mm. Threads from M1.0 and up; thread milling and single-point turning verified by gauges.

Surface Finishes

Turned Ra 1.6 μm typical; precision machined Ra 0.8 μm; ground surfaces down to Ra 0.2 μm when required.

Inconel 718 work-hardens quickly, generates heat and punishes tools. We build stability into the process:

  • DFM and tolerance review before quoting: geometry, thin walls, critical interfaces, datum strategy and inspection plan
  • Tooling strategy matched to cut type: high hot-hardness coated carbide for general turning; controlled edge prep for chip formation; ceramics considered for stable roughing
  • High-pressure through-coolant, optimized chip-breaking and controlled feeds to avoid work-hardened zones
  • Conservative tool engagement and consistent depth-of-cut to stabilize wear and size control
  • Mill-turn consolidation to reduce setups and strengthen feature relationships
  • Rigorous in-process inspection: datums, diameters, runout, concentricity and threads verified at key operations
  • Special processes coordinated per spec: heat treatment (solution + age where required), precision grinding on sealing/bearing surfaces, passivation/coating, deburring, cleaning and marking
